Contest winner

In 1939 a contest was held by the publisher of Victor Herbert’s 1919 piano piece “Indian Summer,” requiring lyricists to add words to the tune. Al Dubin’s attempt came in first and the song became a hit recording by Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra, and also by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with a vocal by Ray Eberle.
